"We couldn't be happier with our new home. The Iowa winds don't bother us anymore."
Ken and Patty Collins, Center Point, Iowa
| Houses have been built with lumber and nails for decades. It's the way many homes are built yet today. But it's not the best way. In fact, it has some real problems that many people don't realize. For instance, did you know that an exterior wall that is rated at R-19 is probably performing at only R-15, or close to it. That's because the wood studs themselves are poor insulators and degrade the value of the entire wall. And fiberglass insulation, if not perfectly installed (and most of time it isn't), quickly loses insulation value when it gets damp or compressed. It's an old construction method that is being surpassed and replaced by high-tech advances in building technology. |
